(Rox, you may want to turn away!) Last year it was the birds…lots of dead ones, torn apart, here and there. This year it is baby squirrels, gutted, disembowled, all over my yard. Ok, that may be exaggerating but there have been 3 so far and a writhing possum too that looked like he was in the death throws. The neighbor has 2 outdoor cats that have been having a Spring Fling. I wish they would bring their presents elsewhere before I hurl.
Onto cheerier things, I am cooking a real meal tonight. Normally I broil meat, make a huge servings of veggies and that’s the extent of it. I have more time today so I am using the cookbook “Simple Pleasures” by the chef of Gotham restaurant here in NYC. So…the salad is cherry tomotoes, watermelon balls, red onion, lime juice and cucumbers. I’ve been dying to make it since it sounds so crazy. For the main course I’m making the spicey skirt steak that they recommend to pair with the salad… I’m so excited! I will write a review tomorrow.
(oh, that’s right. you thought I was vegan. Yah, that only lasted for about 22 hours. I just can’t hack it. I have decided the only way to attempt to reconcile the meat eating thing for me is to do as my mother suggests and to really be thankful and appreciative but that is another topic and quite frankly if I think too hardly on it I am going to get all weirded out again because the truth is I cannot reconcile this one. for me, killing an animal is wrong. but i am really struggling with how to get around it. you can say just don’t eat it but that isn’t working as i am starving all the time. and i feel totally stuck. how did i get sidetracked like this? oh, that’s right….skirt steak…sigh)
well la ti da. it’s really beautiful out right now. if i had my way, i’d have a huge pitcher of sangria and a bunch of girlfriends over right now and we’d sit on the patio and talk about books, cooking and men. so if you have the time, come on by….just please don’t mind the carcasses on your way in…. :O
Oy, why did I get a cat?!
LOL!
I’d love to be a vegan too but I enjoy seafood. Can vegans get away with seafood? My family wouldn’t have it though, they are a pack of carnivores.
The secret to being a vegan and being full is BREAD. LOL!
