…I really never knew how much a mattress could affect my life!! I simply cannot take it anymore!! Yes, I am an Amazonian 6′2″……..and K is 6′6″………that’s a whole lot of body going on between the two of us. Hub had a California King since shortly before we met….which is 5 years ago now and he paid something like $2,000 for it which appalls me, btw. A Cal King is slightly narrower and like 6″ longer than a standard King (and trying to find sheets for this fucker is quite a task). Anyway….the last 4 months or so my lower back has been KILLING me in the middle of the night. Like, I can hardly roll over it is aching so badly. I attributed this to not exercising enough or maybe the stick that is usually up my ass. Well, it has finally occurred to me that it is because our bed is so fucking hard, I have no support under my back. It’s like when you lay on the floor (yes that is how hard it is) and basically that curve in your lower back is up in the air….NO GOOD.
So after a whole big pain in the ass exchange with Overstock.com (they repeatedly shipped us the wrong thing)….we finally got a 4″ memory foam topper. Last night we gave it a test ride, I love it. Hub hates it. They didn’t mention that if you are a big enormous guy that you will bottom out the topper, meaning his upper back is supported but his rear end area sinks down to our regular mattress. Now he has a rather small butt so I don’t know what the deal is but he is not comfortable.
Which means one thing: we need a new mattress, like immediately. Because in addition to my back, hub is the fidgeter of ALL TIME! He kicks his feet like he is doing the Texas Two Step, he shuffles, he wrings his hands, he rolls this way and that…………..and at least 75% of the time it wakes me up. You might be able to imagine that I am the worlds most ENORMOUS bitch when I am woken up. It’s true. I try to be nice but I’m virtually psychotic when it happens. Venom, fireballs, nuclear fallout, you get the idea. They have new fangled mattresses that can prevent this carnage. They are motion control mattresses. I want one and I want it now.
So. Macy’s is having 40% off all mattress and guess where hub will be at 9am tomorrow? Hahaha…..[insert evil cackle]………waiting at the doors of good old Macy’s……..

I have a Sealy “Bowling Ball” bed…OMG! It is firm, yet soft (to prevent bruising) and hubby can flop around on his side all night and I barely notice that he is there! It saved our marriage.
It truly is the biggest investment inside your house that you need to make. Bed money is money well spent. You can’t put a price tag on a good nights’ sleep! Here’s hoping you get one soon!
hey i thought the bowling ball bed was the simmons beautyrest. that’s what i have, in extra firm. it is much firmer than most beds but still has enough cush to allow me to lie comfortably on my side. i LOVE it.
do those silly sleep number things come in extra long? i’ve never tried them but it seems it would be a royal pain in the ass when a couple likes two totally different firmnesses. good luck and sweet dreams soon!
